Beijing Traffic Rule Number 1

In Beijing there are several unwritten golden rules when driving... but the most oft-used rule that Beijing drivers live by is:

Golden Rule Number 1: Fu•k you, I was here first

Hutong

Albeit a very sanitized one for the tourists... there aren't too many left in central Beijing, most have been bulldozed in the name of progress. At least they left this one for the tourists to gawk at... the land prices here are pretty primo.

A nice stroll in the hutong on a cold winter's day

More snow!

the day before it was over 500... that's off the charts. That's why we went out to get an air purifier for the apartment yesterday.

Sights and Sounds of Chinese New Year in Beijing

The first day of Chinese New Year was crazy! Starting at 5pm, fireworks lit up the Beijing Skyline and didn't stop till 2am... absolutely the biggest fireworks show I have ever seen or experienced. Every street corner in Beijing, people were shooting fireworks into the air and lighting fire crackers on the ground. Remember the TV images you saw of the Iraqi invasion and all the tracer fire going up into the sky?

Visualize it, now multiple that 10 fold.

(These videos don't do what I said justice, but they'll give a small taste of the action)

On the street

Outside the 26th floor window!

Random Pics...

I'll look out for funnier ones... promise.

Tonino would be really upset...

The outfits were crap...

If you were dyslexic, this would make sense...

Finally after a 106 day drought...

Some long-awaited precipitation in the form of the white stuff... apparently it's been the driest winter in the last 60 years. This light blanketing of snow is most welcome, especially in China's breadbasket.
